When you first begin thinking about getting married the thought is surrounded by the magic of romance. There is something special about the idea of dedicating your love to that perfect soul-mate that you have always been dreaming of. It may be as close to living a fairy tale as you can get.
The real truth is that marriage is not always happy and it requires some work. There are many different theories on which years are the hardest vs. the easiest, but the truth is that there is no magical number that will ensure you marital bliss. You need to make your marriage happy on your own. Thankfully, there are ways to increase the odds that you and your spouse will be happy in your union for the years to come.
The first thing that you need to do is really ensure that you are both committed to your relationship and your marriage. If only one of you is truly invested it will never work. However, if both spouses are trying to create a happy home the likelihood of success dramatically increases.
Additionally, you have to keep those communication lines open in your marriage. You are not going to be happy 24/7, but that does not mean that you cannot have a happy marriage. Instead, if you have great communication between the two of you, you will be able to work through issues and get the support that you need from each other.
Many people make the mistake of burying problems, even problems that do not have to do with your spouse. When you do this you create a void in your life together and no good can come from that. Instead, use each other to make yourselves stronger as individuals and stronger as a couple.
You must also keep your love alive. On the day that you took those marriage vows you were happy and in love. As we make our way through the world that love can take a back seat. Don’t let it! Instead, tell your spouse how much you love them each and every day. Saying and hearing that sentiment only reaffirms your marriage.
One way that you keep the love alive is to remember to always include the romance. Once you get married you forget to woo your spouse as you did when you were dating. Romance is a happy thing, and it can be a wonderful way of reconnecting with your spouse. So take home flowers, create a candlelit dinner, or a surprise weekend away. What you do doesn't matter so much as long as you are doing something.
Honestly, no marriage is ever happy and perfect at all times. It takes work to create a successful partnership. It is not an impossible task, and the more diligent that you are in doing these things the happier that you will find yourself each and every day!
